Chocolate Caramel Hazelnut Pie

Chocolate Caramel Hazelnut Pie

Chocolate Caramel Hazelnut Pie

This Chocolate Caramel Hazelnut Pie is OUTRAGEOUS!   If you are a caramel fanatic like me, you will be in a dream state from the very first bite.  It’s as easy as pie to make too.  It just requires a little patience.  Patience because you will be learning to make a caramel sauce, which is one of my favorite techniques to teach students. Grasshopper Pie: A Festive Christmas Dessert

A Mad Men era Cocktail: Grasshopper as a Pie is Minty and Festive.

Grasshopper Pie

Grasshopper Pie

Mad Men fans, check this out!  If you love mint, you are going to LOVE and fawn over this Grasshopper Pie that we made last year in our Pie class.  With it’s minty green color, it was so festive looking, so I made it for our Christmas dinner.  I knew that my chocolate-loving in-laws would go bonkers over the chocolate OREO cookie crust and the chocolate shavings on top.  The combination of the creamy and minty interior paired with the chocolate literally sent me over the edge.  It was that good!  I haven’t made it since last Christmas, although I have wanted to.  This year it is going on the menu again! Easy 15 Minute Pie Crust Recipe is Foolproof

Hannah’s Old-Fashioned Apple Pie – Made with Love!

Pies took on a starring role in our November Cooking Class, but that’s not the only place these sweet gems of Americana star in our culture.  I felt like an armchair traveler reading the book, American Pie.  Pascale Le Draoulec travels across the country from San Francisco to New York tasting pies and learning about America’s regional culture along the way.  I wanted to jump into the book and experience this dream trip right alongside her.   Pies again took the starring role in the movie, Waitress, when actress Keri Russell stars as Jenna, a waitress whose fabulous pies are about the only sweet ingredient in an otherwise dreary existence.  The luscious footage of her pies directed me right to the refrigerator for a sample right off the screen. Sweet Potato Pie at our Thanksgiving Feast

We celebrated Thanksgiving early.  The Food Bloggers of Los Angeles all got together to celebrate our third birthday with a feast fit for…well a lot of Food Bloggers.  There was no turkey, but the variety and creativity that abounds from this group always amazes me…and no surprise, the offerings were all so delicious.  I can recommend that you try these recipes yourself to add a new twist to your Thanksgiving meal. (At the bottom of this post you can link to nearly 100 Food Blogger Thanksgiving recipe ideas, so don’t miss them.)  I made a fabulous (if I do say so myself) Sweet Potato Pie and you can find the recipe at the bottom of this post.  I was testing this recipe for my Pies & Tarts Baking class that was held last Thursday. Pies & Tarts Cooking Class – November 8, 2012

Apple Pie with a cinnamon and sugar flaky pie crust

“As American as apple pie” is a common saying, but how common is it for Americans to know how to make an apple pie?…not so common, I’m afraid.  So my goal is to teach a few more people how to make an apple pie along with a flaky pie crust.  The secret to a really great pie is a homemade flaky pie crust made with both butter for flavor and shortening for easier handling.  Come learn the secrets of making pies with us on Thursday, November 8, 6:00 – 9:00 pm at the Holy Nativity Community Hall and take home one of your own homemade pies to impress your family and friends.  Then, you will be ready to make your own pie at home for Thanksgiving Day. Pumpkin Pecan Cheesecake

Pumpkin Pecan Cheesecake

Pumpkin Pecan Cheesecake

Are you looking for a new twist on the Thanksgiving Pumpkin Pie?  Try this Pumpkin Pecan Cheesecake.  It’s outrageously good and your guests will thank you for the change.  I made it here with a flaky pie crust in our Pie Baking Class early this month, but it is equally good with a graham cracker crust.  You get to decide!
