Knife & Veggies 6-12Do you marvel at the speed at which chefs can prepare a meal?  Do you aspire to be an amateur Iron Chef?   Patricia K. Rose, of Fresh Food in a Flash, will lead a hands-on cooking class on Thursday, June 13, 2013, 6:00-9:00 at the Holy Nativity Community Hall in Westchester.  Learn the fundamentals  of using a knife that will cut your cooking time in half.  You will enjoy a freshly made dinner in the beginning of the class, then we’ll practice our Knife Skills and chop vegetables for another meal you can cook up at home. For this class, bring a Chef’s Knife  (the knife in the picture on the blue board) and a Cutting Board along with your apron so you can practice.

If you don’t have a good knife, you should invest in one.  They are pricey but
worth it  It will last you a lifetime and it’s the most important tool in your
kitchen. Click here to see an example of one on Amazon.  I am not
recommending this one exactly.  There are tons of choices  Shop around – what
you want is a heavy one, 6” – 9”, forged high carbon steel, full tang, which
means the blade goes through inside the handle.  I can recommend Thee Cutlery at
the Manhattan Beach Mall as a store where you can get educated about knives and
where you can have your knife sharpened professionally – a good idea to do once
a year.   P.S.  I will have a few extra knives that are available if you don’t
have one before the class.

Cooking Class fee $50 when you reserve by June 10. Class limited to 10 students. You must reserve in advance for this class. To reserve your spot,  email  Then write a check to “Fresh Food in a Flash”; mail it to Holy Nativity Episcopal Church, Cooking Class, 6700 West  83rd Street, Westchester, CA  90045.
